No burn piles in Stevens, Ferry, and Pend Oreille counties
OLYMPIA – The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR), in cooperation with partnering agencies, is implementing the following changes in burn restrictions on DNR-protected lands. Check with local jurisdictions for additional restrictions.
Effective 12:01 a.m. July 6, 2018:
- Rule burning (small debris disposal fires normally allowed when following specific rules) are not allowed in Stevens, Ferry and Pend Oreille counties.
- Written burn permit burning also will no longer be allowed in Stevens, Ferry and Pend Oreille counties.
- Rule and written permit burns are still not allowed in Okanogan, Spokane and Lincoln counties, as well as several counties in southwest Washington, with similar restrictions coming to Pacific County on July 9.
Campfires may be allowed in approved designated campgrounds. Always check with local campground hosts before lighting a campfire.

DNR leadership and wildfire mission
The Commissioner of Public Lands Hilary Franz and DNR are responsible for preventing and fighting wildfires on 13 million acres of private, state and tribal-owned forestlands. DNR is the state’s largest wildland fire department, with more than 1,000 employees trained and available to be dispatched to fires as needed. During fire season, this includes more than 800 DNR employees who have other permanent jobs with the agency and about 550 seasonal employees hired for firefighting duties.
